About OnionDir
Our mission
OnionDir was born from a simple observation: there is no reliable directory for navigating the Tor network. Too many lists of .onion links are outdated, unverified, or full of dead links. Our goal is to provide a quality directory, regularly updated, with clear descriptions and an availability status for each site.
How we verify links
Every link on OnionDir goes through a verification process:
- Accessibility test: we verify that the site is accessible via Tor Browser
- Content check: we accurately describe the service offered
- Regular updates: links are periodically re-tested
- Reporting: dead or changed links are updated or removed
What we do not list
OnionDir is a directory with an educational and informational purpose. We do not list sites offering illegal activities, abusive content, or scams. Our selection focuses on legitimate services: media, privacy tools, discussion forums, encrypted communication services, and educational resources.
Why Tor matters
The Tor network is an essential tool for freedom of expression and online privacy. It is used daily by journalists, whistleblowers, human rights activists, and citizens living under censorship regimes. Major organizations such as the BBC, the New York Times, and ProPublica maintain .onion versions of their sites to guarantee censorship-free access to information.
